Q: What Exactly is A3D History?
A: A3D History is a repository of my independent VR Reconstruction and digital heritage adventures. I create both VR experiences as a final “product,” alongside the inclusion of my academic research process, behind-the-scenes materials on application development, and additional videos which explore historic narratives.
Q: What are these experiences? Are they video games? Are they digital museums?
A: I consider them curated digital exhibitions or their own unique category. They don’t follow the same goal pursuit or gameplay loop of a video game. They don’t serve the social function of a museum. They don’t simply reconstruct buildings and then draw the line there.
Q: Is this affiliated with any institutions?
A: A3D History is not part of any institution; it is strictly my personal work. However, some of the projects have been partially funded or facilitated with the assistance of formal organizations.
Q: Do I need a VR Headset?
A: Currently, only London Bridge VR and Galveston Customs House and Post Office can be experienced without a VR headset on a traditional mouse and keyboard setup. I try to take the design approach of “best experienced in VR” into all my work.
Q: Can I use your research?
A: Yes, please do - on the condition you adequately provide citations on materials that come directly from my work.
Q: How do I cite your work?
A: For any webpage-based citation, follow traditional web citation format. For the digital experiences themselves, I would follow Social Media Content or Video and Podcast formats from the Chicago Manual of Style, as they would require that you provide URL links to the download pages for the experiences.
Q: Do I have to join Patreon to read the newsletter, watch videos, or download VR experiences?
A: Absolutely not! The entire point of this project is to provide my methodologies, my research, and the final educational historical experiences for free to anyone for their own benefit.
Q: How can I contact you?
A: Just send me an email at a3dhistory@gmail.com!
